PROJECTS > A Recipe for Pokeberry Ink

Hilton’s work as an artist, curator, educator and writer has led her to explore her own family histories. After reading the WPA Slave Narratives of Athens, Ga., she was inspired to learn about traditional cures, folk medicine and plants used by slaves in this area. By studying, illustrating, and teaching these histories, Hilton illuminates one facet of the South’s complex past.
